This position will investigate the function and architecture of the Sulfolobus genome. We have recently described the low-resolution structure of the Sulfolobus genome (Takemata et al., Cell, 2019). We will build on those preliminary data to determine the molecular basis of the establishment and maintenance of the compartmentalized genome architecture.
This projects will involve a series of biochemical, genetic and protein structure-based approaches. We seek collegial, self-motivated, independent, and intellectually curious individuals who, by the time of appointment, should have PhDs in molecular biology, microbial genetics, biochemistry, or a related field. Applicants must have strong bench skills, and familiarity with techniques such as cloning, qPCR, recombinant protein purification, and the bioinformatic analyses of next-gen sequencing data is strongly desirable (though training in these techniques will also be provided as necessary).
In addition, candidates must have demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Experience working with archaea is helpful but not required
