Essential Functions: This position will be involved in a NIH-funded project to study the roles of microRNAs in ocular immunity and in bacterial keratitis using transgenic mouse models and human corneal samples. The project also will explore the potential of miRNAs as therapeutic targets and develop miRNA-based therapy for bacterial keratitis and related immune/inflammatory diseases. This position will also have opportunities to explore the roles of miRNAs in other ocular diseases, including inherited retinal degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetes. The research will be conducted with comprehensive genetic, cellular and molecular biology and immunological techniques, including flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, gene expression profiling by real time PCR, RNA seq, single cell seq, and immunohistochemistry.Principle Duty and Responsibilities:Plan and design of experiments.Conduct the experiments and data analysis. Prepare manuscripts and assist in grant writing.Present data in lab meeting, local and national conferences.Assist in training of students. Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have a MD and/or PhD degree(s) in ocular sciences, immunology, molecular biology, molecular genetics and cell biology. Knowledge and skills required: Knowledge and techniques in cell biology, e.g. cell culture, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, in situ hybridization. Knowledge and technique in molecular biology, e.g. DNA, RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR. Knowledge and skills in microscopy.Computer skills, including word processing, excel, power point, photoshop, internet browsing.Good communication and organization skills.
