The NeuroGenetics and Informatics (NGI) group (https://neurogenomics.wustl.edu/) at Washington University School of Medicine is recruiting a Bioinformatics Research Analyst to work in Dr. Cruchaga lab at the Washington University School of Medicine. The NGI generates and analyzes Whole-Genome Sequencing data and high-throughput multi-dimensional omic data to study neurodegeneration and diseases of the central nervous system with emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other dementias. The goal of our research is to use genomic and multi-omic approaches to understand the biology of Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson Disease and other neurodegenerative disease. Our labs have pioneered the use of biomarker levels for Alzheimer and Parkinson disease as endophenotypes for genetic studies.
We are looking for a Bioinformatics Research Analyst with expertise in GWAS, WES/WGS and/or RNA-seq data analyses to work in a project focus on the identification of genes dysregulated in Alzheimer disease.
She/he will join a team of nine computational and statistical researchers working in bioinformatics, statistical genomics and genetics. The team comprises over 20 people dedicated to understanding the architecture of neurodegenerative diseases.
The candidate will hold a master in statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics, Medical Statistics, Mathematics or similar. The candidate should have a strong background in GWAS (PLINK and SKAT-O), and WES/WGS (BWA, GATK) or RNA-seq analyses (STAR, SALMON, KALLISTO, DESEQ2). A working knowledge of UNIX, Perl/Python, R and Docker are also required.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages research projects and work together with other group members to complete data processing and analysis following specific timelines.
Participate in meetings with other institutions and investigators.
To write and optimize analyses pipelines (scripts) for WES, WGS and RNA-seq.
Analyze data including QC, and organize the data properly.
Create reports of the analyses and prepare presentations.
Write manuscripts sections such as material and methods and results.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus four years of experience; OR master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus two years of experience; OR combined education and experience of nine years.
The candidate will hold a PhD in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar.
The candidate should have a strong background in GWAS (PLINK and SKAT-O), and WES/WGS (BWA, GATK) or RNA-seq analyses (STAR, SALMON, KALLISTO, DESEQ2).
A working knowledge of UNIX, Perl/Python, R and Docker.
A knowledge of neuroscience and neurodegeneration is highly recommended.
Five years of experience in Human Genetics
The hiring range for this position is $53,830 - $72,675 annually.
