The Heart Institute, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and Departmentof Pediatrics, University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) hasavailability for postdoctoral fellow with an expertise in human and animalphysiology, cardiac phenotyping techniques such as rodent echocardiography, electrocardiography, stress and behavioral tests to study cardiac diseases in alarge cohort of mouse colonies. The research is funded by NIH to study genetic, molecular mechanisms, and pathogenesis of human cardiomyopathy and involvesgenetic, molecular, biochemical and physiologic studies in animal models andcell cultures. The selected candidates will be actively involved in all aspectsof these studies. Knowledge in basic molecular biology and functional genomics isdesired. As the study involves multidisciplinary cardiovascular and geneticresearch, we offer excellent training opportunities, creative and innovativework environment and interactions with many other laboratories and corefacilities, including the sequencing center, bioinformatics and genomics cores, and animal facilities. We value a research environment with an emphasis onpersonal and work ethics, respect to others, good communication skills andproductive collaboration.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Performphysiological and stress in vivotests and experiments on an independent
or with minimal guidance basis. We will provide initial training on performing clinical and
physiological phenotyping in mouse colonies
2. Being responsible and collaborative with the Principal Investigator and senior researchers
in the planning, developing and performing research projects; recording and timely reporting
results and progresses of the projects
3. Provide technical guidance, advice and support to research staff and technicians.
4. Maintain positive working relationships as a team player with respect to staff, peers
and senior investigators, personal and work ethics, good communication and positive problem
solving skills
General Knowledge and Skill
1. Ability to develop and design the experimental strategy and approach according to the
research problems and outline the most significant results
2. Ability to develop new methods and techniques in experimentation as needed
3. Ability to direct and organize work of technical support personnel
4. Ability to prepare and present reports and presentations on research projects
5. Ability to write manuscripts and research proposal
