The Genetic Counselor is a master level-trained professional who is responsible for providing cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling and testing for individuals as part of a leading multidisciplinary cancer genetics program. The genetic counselor has the ability to provide assistance in overall long-term coordination of care for high-risk patients, and assist in protocol development, coordination and recruitment for studies in cancer risk assessment, management, prevention, and basic science research conducted at Penn Medicine). In addition, the genetic counselor will be asked to lecture in cancer genetics to a wide variety of audiences including students, professional groups and lay audiences.
The Genetic Counselor will provide key infrastructure support to the Basser Center for BRCA and the Mariann & Robert MacDonald Cancer Risk Evaluation Program (CREP). Genetic Counselors in CREP currently provide services in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (main Philadelphia location), Valley Forge, and Cherry Hill. The main location for this position will be the new Penn Medicine network site at Penn Medicine Radnor (Radnor, PA) and will serve both Radnor as well as Valley Forge patients.
Education and Experience: MS in Genetic Counseling, Human Genetics or related field. Maintain active state licensure. Experience in oncology preferred (particularly breast and ovarian cancer). Experience with supporting research and/or project coordination. Familiarity in dealing with Institutional Review Board (IRB). Experience in coordinating programs.
Board Eligible or Board Certified through the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.
