Conduct a wide range of complex laboratory and research experiments with a degree of independence in conducting research of human genetics related to cardiomyopathy congenital heart defects, and other heritable cardiovascular conditions. Perform complex techniques or procedures delineating genetic modifiers utilizing genomic technologies for functional annotation and validation of genetic variants. Also includes molecular biology techniques, DNA and RNA processing, sequencing and analysis, and genetic analysis and bioinformatics. The analyst performs cell culture and molecular cloning as needed for the goals of the project. Participates in the development of functional assays using molecular techniques to follow up genomic results. Participate in protocol development.
Assist in preparing completed research reports or analyses on each project phase. Direct or participate in the tabulation and computation of project results. Write results of experiments. Summarize data for publications or grant submissions and contribute intellectually as first or co-author on laboratory manuscripts.
Maintain databases and organization of genetic data including sample tracking. Coordinate with clinical research staff to assure seamless transfer of information and samples from enrolled participants. Oversee the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Coordinate assignment of laboratory personnel; monitor completion of assigned tasks and provide training to research technicians and/or graduate students as needed. Train laboratory personnel in various techniques and analysis.
Maintain knowledge trends through reading, conferences, and seminars. Review literature to identify suitable procedures and methods.
Bachelor's degree in a science field and six years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a science field and three years of research experience.
Experience with human genetics and genomic testing. Genetic analysis and interpretation. PCR, microarray analysis. Experience with clinical research, data forms, protocol paperwork, and computer systems.
