Description The Booth Lab (biobooth.org) in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at UCSF seeks a research technician who is eager to help build foundational resources for this newly founded lab. The Booth Lab investigates cell fate determination in choanoflagellates to reconstruct the early evolution of mechanisms for generating cellular diversity in animals. Building upon functional genomic data, this research will use and advance newly developed techniques for transgenics and genome editing in the model choanoflagellate, Salpingoeca rosetta.
An ideal candidate will be a curious, creative, and conscientious individual with experience performing independent research and working in a diverse team. Their/her/his primary responsibilities will be culturing microorganisms, improving molecular genetics methods for high-throughput platforms, establishing lab inventory systems, and keeping meticulous experimental records. Candidates can expect to work in an ambitious, open-minded, and collaborative environment that celebrates research achievements and provides support for personal development.
Bachelor’s or higher degree in Biological, Physical, or Computer Sciences
At least one year of scientific research experience
Clearly communicate scientific concepts
Preferred Qualifications: (note: candidates are not expected to have all of these skills, please highlight those you do)
Fundamental molecular biology skills: nucleic acid purification, PCR amplification, and molecular cloning
Sterile technique for microbiology and/or tissue culture.
Basic light microscopy
