JobSummary/Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of anassigned supervisor, this position coordinates the operation of the Laboratoryfor Research, including human genetics and molecular biology in the Departmentof Genetics, Genomics, & Informatics. Provides research, education, and developmentsupport of the labs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the daily maintenance of the laboratory, assists collecting and depositing of data, writes experimental protocols, and places and records supply/animal/equipment acquisitions.
- Coordinates human and animal tissue sample collection and processing, cell culture (transfection and maintenance), and microscopy and molecular biology.
- Collects research data from in-lab testing or research publications and compiles data into usable format by scientific analysis.
- Assists postdoctoral fellows and trains and assists students, including graduate students and visiting scientists in cell culture and molecular biology experiments.
- Evaluates lab equipment needs for repair, replacement, or purchase of new equipment ensuring compatibility with research application.
- Maintains procurements and disposes of biospecimens appropriately.
- Ensures proper storage methods for in lab continued use and disposal methods.
- Keeps inventory of received and disposed of cell lines and biospecimens.
- Maintains all laboratory components, calibrates lab equipment and orders lab supplies.
- Ensures safety compliance of all trainees and students in the laboratory under the supervision of and standards of UTHSC.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
