Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Assistant for the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey. This department is looking for a proactive, highly organized, adaptable Research Project Assistant who can assist Project Management team and Business team with incoming business leads and assist Project Manager on short- and long-term projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Oversees short- and long-term projects delegated by the Project Manager.
Coordinates with all necessary technical teams and vendors to ensure timely response on business lead and project is moving forward on time and on budget.
Communicates with customers via phone and email in a friendly and professional manner to procure requirements for potential new business.
Ensures accurate tracking of inquiry information for quote generation.
Participates in required occupational health and safety programs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
Requires knowledge of scientific empirical procedures
Understand the fundamentals of the science and business
Read and understand technical documents
Performs basic scientific routines, protocols, and tests and articulate data to researchers.
Must lift and move up to 30 pounds
Must operate and maintain sophisticated equipment
Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Keen attention to detail and an aptitude for problem-solving
Highly motivated with a strong work ethic
Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Two years relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests.
Able to proactively address potential issues

Able to work independently with little supervision
Able to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven work environment
Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Fluidigm Biomark HR real time PCR platform, Biomek FX (fluid robotics); Ion-Torrent DNA sequencer; Illumina HiSeq, MiSeq and NextSeq Bead Array Genome Analyzers
Illumina iScan array scanner; Caliper Sciclone Next Generation robotic genomic sequencer; Caliper G-X Gene Chip RNA and DNA separation apparatus
ABI thermocyclers; Affymetrix Gene Titan microarray instrumentation
Regular workweek may include evening and/or weekend work
Must have excellent manual dexterity skills
Will work with bio-hazardous materials
Must be able to lift light to medium weight objects and work with low-level background noise from instrumentation
Must be able to operate scientific instruments and computers, perform detailed work, and manage multiple tasks
Require a valid driver's license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers' Defensive Driving Course
