Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Department of Medicine – Gastroenterology, at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Professor of Medicine and Chief of the division of Gastroenterology, the Laboratory Technician will assist with managing logistics for ongoing human genetics studies, research subject recruitment and data collection, laboratory procedures and analyses in support of specialized research activities in the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases focused laboratory. Relevant procedures include PCR, Real-Time PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), western blotting, preparation of DNA and RNA for genotyping, next-generation sequencing and ATAC sequencing, cell culture and microscopy.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs experiments using standard and advanced molecular biology techniques as assigned including DNA/RNA purifications, TaqMan, sequencing library preparations, ATAC-Seq and other genotyping methodologies, cell culture and ELISA
Keeps accurate and up-to-date records of work performed and maintains a database as required, data is shared with colleagues and published in scientific journals
Performs and assists with QC of genotype, DNA and RNA sequencing data, ELISA and phenotype data, bioinformatics correlations and assists with statistical analysis of data
Maintains and keeps the workplace and laboratory organized in a clean and safe manner in accordance with established procedures
When called upon, serves as an assistant in the performance of experiments, training and leading students through various laboratory related activities
Collects, sorts, processes samples, performs analysis and presents the results. Analysis is conducted using various methods and in accordance with established procedures
Documents work performed, maintains a database, develops information for research papers and prepares editorial input for research papers
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in a relevant science
Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology with laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques
Coursework and/or experience in computational/mathematical biology with some programming skills preferred for database design/management and bioinformatics including analyses of sequence data (FastQC, Cufflinks and others)
