The opportunity is with the Dougherty Lab of the departments of Genetics and Psychiatry. We are a lab that utilizes mouse models and human genetics studies to investigate the genetic contribution to psychiatric disorders, especially autism. We are seeking candidates interested in molecular neuroscience to help with functional validation of psychiatric disease associated mutations that may impact transcription or translation. Work in the lab includes standard molecular biology (PCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, Immunoblotting, qPCR etc.), cell culture, mouse genotyping and husbandry, as well as potential for learning and executing advanced molecular methods such as TRAP, CLIP, sequencing library preparation for Illumina, and massively parallel reporter assays.
The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with molecular biology experience, and proven ability to perform in a laboratory environment.
Comfort with some rodent handling is also required.
Comfort with computational/statistical approaches for data analysis.
Comfort with generation of scientific figures.
Comfort with well as scientific writing.
Applicant must have excellent skills at the bench and be highly productive and efficient.
Knowledge of neuroscience.
Experience with anatomy and microscopy.
Individual must be motivated, independent, organized and collegial.
Base pay commensurate with experience.
