Department of Internal Medicine – Gastroenterology at University of Michigan is looking for a highly-motivated Research Analyst. Our team studies the mechanisms that lead to obesity, liver disease, and cardiometabolic diseases human genetics. We are seeking an experienced master’s-level if possible, analyst/statistical programmer with experience managing and analyzing data using R and/or Python. The analyst must be able to work independently and collaboratively and understand both database and research complexities, and apply independent problem-solving skills and scientific knowledge. Specific duties for this highly regarded team member include.
• Performing GWAS to identify SNPs affecting human diseases.
• Writing, testing, and implementing programs using R and/or Python to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large, complex datasets.
• Summarizing, interpreting, and presenting results in written, tabular and visual formats.
• Assisting in the writing and reviewing of statistical methods in manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Participating as a team member in discussions on data collection, management, and analysis.
Candidate must have at least a Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of experience in statistical analysis and computer programming. Programming in R and/or python is a must. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF’s and e-mail is required. In addition, the candidate must have exceptionally strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively in a research team, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI.
A Masters degree in statistics or a similar quantitative field or equivalent is highly preferred. Working knowledge of concepts and methods in biostatistics is desired. Should be comfortable with Linux/Unix environment. Familiarity with organizing and managing large datasets a plus.
