Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Head Clerk for the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey – RUCDR.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Oversight of sample submission.
Maintenance of data associated with all sample submissions and laboratory procedures.
Communicates with RUCDR supervisory staff on project details and when needed communicate with RUCDR investigators.
Processes include and are not limited to: pre-processing of primary clinical samples, plasma/serum separation, nucleic acid extraction, creation and maintenance of cell lines.
Performs occasional laboratory procedures involved in these processes and help maintain accurate computer records via dedicated databases and statistical records.
Communicates with RUCDR contributing PI's and their staff who submit samples, ensuring that contributors are informed and satisfied with the services being performed on their submissions.
Under administrative direction, performs diversified clerical duties.
Organizes assigned clerical work.
Maintain department files and databases. Resolves filing and recording issues. Compiles reports.
Opens, sorts, and routes mail.
Responds to inquiries.
May lead and oversee clerical operations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent plus four years of any equivalent combination of:
Clerical experience, secretarial experience, advanced secretarial or business training, or college-level study.
Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must have effective client service skills.
May require the ability to group lead.
General knowledge of biology as it relates to cell and DNA repository sample submissions.
Experience with Biological sample transportation and Cell bank processes.
Experience with database management and LIMS systems preferred.
NIH Computer Awareness Training.
Experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and general database and statistical software is preferred.
Knowledge of BioSafety Handling, Right-To-Know, HIPA Regulations and LIMS.
Experience working with dry ice and liquid nitrogen.
Laboratory equipment will include and not be limited to: incubators, biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, pipet-aids, -80 freezers, liquid nitrogen dewars and freezers, CO2 manifold system. Software systems will include and not be limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, RUCDR StarLIMS, SQL databases, Oracle databases, label printers, scanners, digital cameras.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Requires excellent manual dexterity skills.
Must be able to lift light to medium weight objects and work with low-level background noise from instrumentation.
Must be able to read and understand technical documents, operate scientific instruments and computers, perform detailed work, and manage multiple tasks.
Occasional weekend and Holiday shifts will be required.
