The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University and Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System seek a cardiologist to join as an Associate or Full Professor in the Medical Center Line or University Tenure Line and serve as the Section Chief for Cardiology at VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The successful applicant will show excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity. The successful candidate will oversee the cardiology section at VA Palo Alto Health Care System, a large section with many staff, serving many Veteran patients in multiple settings including inpatient and outpatient.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Medical Center Line are excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. Regardless of the faculty line appointment, the position requires excellence in clinical care and teaching; furthermore, the role of cardiology section chief requires excellence in administration, management, and leadership. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is a tertiary referral center for an area encompassing a large area of Northern California and incorporates all aspects of current cardiology practice, including electrophysiology, interventional and structural cardiology, advanced heart failure and heart transplantation, as well as advanced cardiac imaging including coronary CT angiography and cardiac MRI. The VAPAHCS is one of three coordinating centers for the Million Veteran Project (MVP) which produces genomic data for use by MVP investigator. Other areas of current research include outcomes research, quality Improvement, health services and diversity, as well as basic research studying mechanisms of aortic stenosis, inflammation as a factor in coronary artery disease, and the role of exercise in reducing cardiovascular events. The VA Section of Cardiology is an integral part of the cardiovascular fellowship program at Stanford University, with cardiology fellows active in both clinical and research activities.
We invite applications from accomplished physicianscientists with expertise in clinical areas that are broadly applicable to cardiovascular disease, and serve to bridge clinical activities to innovative research programs. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, vascular biology, structural heart disease, human genetics, outcomes research, health services research and technology applications to patient care. The applicant is expected to have a MD or MD/PhD degree and to have formal training in cardiovascular disease. The successful candidate will need to meet requirements for appointment to the medical staff of VAPAHCS.
