VCU Health System’s Human Genetics is seeking a Genetic Counselor to provide genetic evaluation and counseling services to patients, significant others or family members with, or at risk for, medical genetic disorders, within the broad specialties of prenatal, adult, pediatric and cancer. You will Serve as a consultant and educator for the physician practices, VCU Health System Clinic and community partners. You’ll also recognize the need or professional growth and to take an active role in meeting educational needs.
Prioritizing and organizing patient care and ensuring follow-through with planned care
Utilizing resources and validating information to maintain standards of Clinical Practice
Supervising administrative, clinical and clerical employees assigned to the department
Master’s of Science in Genetic Counseling from an Accreditation Council for Genetic (ACGC) accredited program or impending graduation
Clinical rotations in Genetic Counseling
Demonstrated clinical, counseling, interpersonal, analytical, communication, presentation and instructional skills
Demonstrated skills in patient assessment
Computer data-entry skills and computer knowledge to include but not be limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and electronic medical records
American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) licensure, American Board of Medical Genetics (AMGB) certification or active candidate status (preferred)
Ability to obtain a Virginia Genetic Counseling License
Experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered. Select candidates will be placed into appropriate levels (Genetic Counselor I or Genetic Counselor II) based on their experience and qualifications.
