Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Budget Analyst III for The Waksman Institute. The Waksman Institute is home to over 15 faculty members who use a broad range of approaches and experimental systems in numerous well-funded research programs. The Institute is part of a vibrant and interactive life sciences community that includes the School of Arts and Sciences Division of Life Sciences, the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey, and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supports a variety of analyses and reporting functions for the preparation of the Institute’s annual budget and forecasting activities.
Monitors budgetary and financial activity for Waksman Institute, including required reporting and provides recommendations as needed.
Works on various ad hoc projects to support funding and budget decisions by the Director and Executive Director of Administration.
Gathers information from university departments, other institutions/centers, and other sources using email, internet searches, telephone interviews, meetings, etc.
Responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the University’s working budget processes well as reviewing operating units’ input into the Hyperion Budget Planning System to insure proper implementation of the budget.
Provides administrative support to the Institute, including the maintenance of lists and email distribution for information and reports.
Performs other general office tasks as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
Also must have a minimum of 5 years experience working in a financial or accounting position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptionally strong financial analytical skills necessary for interpretation of budgetary, financial and related management information.
Ability to work independently to meet Institute objectives.
Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively under time constraints and to respond flexibly and constructively under pressure.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and cost analyses.
Willingness to learn new systems and processes.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of: Tableau, Oracle Hyperion Planning software and Peoplesoft.

Ability to bend, sit, stand and walk for periods of time
Able to occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
