The successful candidate will work as apart of a collaborative team of basic scientists, medical doctors, and bioinformaticians to continue development of a knowledge network encompassing various aspects of publically available biomedical data. The ultimate goal of this project is to help doctors make more informed, and evidence based decisions on individual patients as they come to the various clinics. In addition, this project will be the foundation of several collaborations to help develop more effective therapies.
This position offers opportunities for training and research in several areas including computational biosciences, genetics, pharmacology, and medicine.
A Masters or bachelor degree in biology, computer science or related field with demonstrated proficiency in one or more computer programming languages (i.e., SQL, Python, R, Perl, C/C++, etc.) and different platforms (i.e., Linux, MacOS, etc.), ability to work well with others, and strong communication and writing skills are required. A clear understanding and first hand knowledge of public biological and medical databases (e.g. UMLS, MeSH, ENTREZ, Drugbank, etc), ontologies (e.g. NCBO, OBO foundry, etc.) and other similar resources will be considered a definite plus. Familiarity with graph theory or social network analysis is also a significant plus.
